The Real Thing first appeared on the ITV talent show Opportunity Knocks, to which they then acquired a manager, Tony Hall who secured them a recording contract with Pye Records. For their debut single, they recorded "You to Me Are Everything".[3] The song was written by producer Ken Gold together with Micky Denne; Denne came up with the chorus first, and they wrote most of the song in less than an hour. They took the demo of the song to Hall and Chris Amoo, the lead singer of The Real Thing, and the group recorded the song at the Roundhouse studios a week later.[4]
The original release of "You to Me Are Everything" reached number one in the UK and stayed there for three weeks.[3] It peaked at No. 22 in Australia,[7] number 3 in Ireland and number 10 in New Zealand. The original version has been certified silver in the UK for 250,000 single sales.[8]
"You to Me Are Everything" was covered by English pop singer Sonia in 1991. The song was released in November 1991 as the third and final single from her second album. The "Radio Mix" is a new remixed version by Pete Hammond that differs from the album version. The song's B-side, "Be My Baby", is also on the album. This single reached No. 13 in UK and No. 14 in Ireland.[37][38]
"You to Me Are Everything" was Sean Maguire's fifth single and the second from his second album, Spirit. Maguire's version of the song was released in November 1995 and reached number 16 on the UK Singles Chart.[40]
The Real Thing enjoyed success in both the 1970s & 80s with 3 Top 10 singles. The No 1 Hit You To Me Are Everything, Can't Get By Without You and Can You Feel The Force are all still featured daily on all the major UK radio stations. They also have around one million plays or more on Spotify each month.
They also had a hit movie Everything which played nationally in cinemas and was also aired on BBC and Chanel 4 in August 2020. This was followed by their Greatest Hits Album which made the official National Album charts and reached No 2 in the Amazon download charts.
They say that the time will heal it The pain will go awayBut everything, it reminds me of you And it comes in wavesThe way you laugh when your shoulders shook The time you tookTo teach me all that you had taught Tell me how am I supposed to move on
And they been saying, they been saying the same thingAnd they, they been saying they been saying the same thingAnd they, they been saying they been saying the same thingAnd- they been saying they been saying the same thingAnd they, they been saying they been saying the same thingAnd they they been saying they been saying the same thingThey they been saying they been saying the same thingAnd they they been saying they been saying the same thing
Having enjoyed success in both the '70s and '80s with three Top 10 singles, including their number one hit You to Me Are Everything, The Real Thing are undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with.
The English group The Real Thing made history by having the first number one hit in Great Britain as a black band from the UK. This shows what the musical climate was like in the UK in the 1970s and is also clearly reflected in this film. They were an important voice in the soul, funk and jazz scene and inspired the slightly later brit funk sound of the early 80s, a sound that today has fans all over the world - especially Japan and even American all-rounder Tyler The Creator. The Real Thing are the most successful black band of the 70s and best known for songs like "Can You Feel The Force?", "You To Me Are Everything" and "Children Of The Ghetto", the latter title was also sampled by the likes of Madlib for Freddie Gibbs and has been covered by Philip Bailey (Earth, Wind & Fire), Courtney Pine and Mary J. Blige. The film was released at the end of 2020, but due to the lockdowns that started just after, it has stayed under the radar a bit. That's why we decided to give this film another one-off screening!
At first glance, I was afraid this would be one of those chick-lit books filled with pretty people in pretty places doing pretty things, but without a whole lot of substance beyond that. Fortunately, my first impressions were wrong.
The months and the years are slipping by and I tell you often enough that I love you, that my life would not be complete without you anymore. I don't know, though, if I've really told you how loving you has improved the quality of my life in so many ways. For one thing, I'm sure I wouldn't have gotten this last promotion without your encouragement. I knew I had the experience and the know-how, but I just wasn't bold enough to step forward when the position first became available. It was your faith in me and in my abilities that actually gave me the nerve to apply for it. Now that I have it, I use so much more of my education and experience, and my self-esteem has gotten a real shot in the arm, too--all thanks to you.
Loving you also means I have the opportunity to be there for you when you need me. I remember when you wanted to make a proposal to your project committee and you needed to practice on an audience. I learned a lot from hearing your great ideas on improving efficiency and productivity in an advertising department. I was glad you thought that trying out your presentation on me helped improve your final draft. When your proposal was accepted and the changes you suggested became a reality, your success was as much a boost to my ego as it was to yours.
I wonder if you know how much I look forward to the simple things we share, like our talk fest over dinner at the end of a long workday. It's a great stress reliever to tell you all the day's events and listen to you analyze why this happened, or why that person behaved the way they did, and then speculate together on how tomorrow will line up. On the weekends, I enjoy relaxing with you and just watching a movie, critiquing every aspect of the production like professional movie critics, making judgments on everything from the casting choices to the quality of the screenplay.
I can't even imagine my life now without all the things we enjoy together--our passionate lovemaking, luxurious bubble baths, and lazy sleep-ins on Sunday morning. Through the days and through the nights, thank you for always being there; I'll always be there for you. I want you to know how much I truly love and appreciate you, Sweetheart. You mean everything to me.
I am so grateful that you are in my life. Your tender caring and gentle ways, your strength, and your love for life have influenced every part of who I am, even down to the colors that I like--remember how I used to hate red before you came along? You've encouraged me to do things that I may never have had the courage to try without you--things like scuba diving, rock climbing, even sky diving. You've also helped me to appreciate things that I had always taken slightly for granted to a greater extent--things like the importance of families and patriotism. You've also helped me gain an interest in preserving and enjoying the natural beauty around us.
Thank you for your support and for your love. Thank you for being so caring and so kind. You make me feel like a princess--you treat me like a woman longs to be treated. Thank you for the flowers on special occasions, for taking me dancing (even though you claim to have two left feet), for going on long walks with me, for opening doors for me and pulling out my chair. I know these are little things, and I know that some of them are things that many women don't appreciate men doing for them anymore, but they are things that this woman loves. You're so good to me, and even though I don't express it as often as I would like to or as often as I should, I want you to know that these simple things are part of the reason why I admire you so, and they are why I love you more than I ever thought possible.
I've been so happy this last year that we have been together. I would say that I've always been a positive person and I try to look on the bright side of things, but being with you has brought me a joy that I have never known before. Life's just better with you in it, and I know that it always will be so. I hope that I will always be worthy of your love, and that I can be the kind of person that you deserve. I know that I'm not perfect, but I will strive to be the best person that I can be. You're worth it--definitely worth it. I know that we can do great things together. In fact, I think we can do anything together! I look forward with hope and excitement to the future we will build together. I can hardly wait!
The more I get to know you, the more I want to know, and the more I can't wait for each new day, just to be with you, just to watch the sun rise in your arms and to see the smile on your face. Every day I love you more, and every day I realize to a greater extent how much this relationship means to me, how much you mean to me. You are everything to me.
Over the last few weeks, I have thought about how deep my love for you really is and how much it has grown in five years. When we were dating and I first fell in love with you, I couldn't imagine more love than that. Then came marriage, school, a child, life--we've shared all the ups and downs, and my love for you has blossomed from bud to flower. I cannot fathom a life without you. To me, you are life itself.
You generously overlook my weaknesses and gently urge me to do better. Because I love you, I want to improve. Without your support, I don't think I would have been motivated to finish graduate school. The road would have been too long to travel alone. But, night after night, you were willing to create an atmosphere of study and even sat with me as I struggled to internalize difficult subjects. Although only my name is printed on the certificate, in a very real way, my degree is our degree. In return, I hope I have made your life a little easier, too. 041b061a72
